Why You Should Have Alternative Wedding Videos
If you found my website or insta page then you probably hate being papped and therefore probably aren’t super sold on our alternative wedding videos. However much like my photography, we pride ourselves on offering the alternative: FUN, candid, unposed & genuine wedding videography. You choose the music, we do the rest. You’ll cackle with laughter and you’ll cry happy tears; this blog is here to convince you to add wedding videos to your package.
1. Alternative Wedding Videos can Capture Moments Photo Miss
While I try my absolute best to be a ninja and get around to everywhere in your wedding day, there will inevitably be moments I miss. That’s why having video means you get an extensive document of your day: perhaps it’s a reaction during the speeches, an emosh hug between 2 old pals, questionable dance moves, a little moment of love between the couples - the list is endless. Having video will mean you get a comprehensive document of your day - something you’ll never get an opportunity to add again. One of my absolute fave video moments was at Ruby & Ryan’s wedding at Botley Hill Barn (blog here) where video caught the moment a family joined in a special moment. Here’s the reel if you wanna see it.
2. It’s an excuse for a film premiere
While you’ll get hundreds of photos through your gallery, having a video means you can have people round, open some bubbles, and stick on a 10-15 minute video capturing all the best moments. You also have the ceremony & speeches in full in case there was a particular moment you want to relive, or a speech you’d like retold. Many of my couples tell us how they make a night out of it and relive all the magic together.
3. Another timeless record of your day
Just as photos will stay with you forever, so do wedding videos. They won’t age and you won’t get tired of watching then. Our alternative wedding videos are based on the music you give us, so they will forever be personal! In years to come you will be able to have all your speeches retold, you’ll be able to show the moment you tied the knot to future generations. That’s priceless isn’t it? (I say that, there is a price. The prices can be found here)
4. Audio Memories
We record all the ceremony and speeches in full with snazzy recording devices placed on the speakers, and a wider recorder for your guest reactions. Here you’ll be able to hear the vows being read, speeches being delivered, readings being dedicated, laughter at the jokes; having a video means you can another emotional layer to your wedding day.
5. Super 8 is Back
Storytelling doesn’t have to be told through capturing hours and hours of footage, it can be as simple as having a 3 minute Super 8 video. Super 8 - a vintage and analogue method of filming - is back and we are here for it. Super 8 provides a grainy and raw aesthetic to the video which is not only cinematic and stylish, but guests absolutely love seeing them and often become a talking point of the wedding! Film and developing Super 8 is expensive so it means we have to choose the right moments carefully. The product is a shorter video but more precise in its storytelling. You can see why we love Super 8 videos here.
6. You get to work with my life & biz partner Tristan
Since August 2023 we’ve been doing this business together. Tristie left his very stable teacher to join Kim Williams Weddings as the videographer and we haven’t looked back. Tristie is an intersectional feminist and fierce LGBTQIA+ ally (he is marrying a queer woman after all) and will make you and your guests feel at ease. He’s also a highly trained ninja (like me) and will be darting around capturing as many moments as possible without you realising he’s there. So many of my guests have commented how it’s just like working with mates, and that’s why I love working with him.
7. It can be funny AF
Wedding videos are typically soppy and slow cue string music and emotional speeches, and while there’s absolutely nothing wrong with that they don’t have to be. Your wedding videos are meant to capture your day in the way it lived out: it should capture the laughs, the jokes, the silliness, the crazieness. One of the best wedding videos we made was India & Joe who, like us, are HUGE office fans. They wanted their wedding video to be in the style of a mockumentary, with talking heads, voice overs and a silly clips and we were totally here for it (watch below). If you have a certain thing in mind or want more of the silly and less of the soppy, then we’re all ears.
8. Still not convinced? Read This Review (and watch the video)
“We originally were not going to have a video of our day but WOW. We are so happy we did! Tristen (Kim’s partner) really captured the moments we wanted to cherish forever and also captured moments we didn't realise we wanted to see. We have watched the video so many times on our own and with family and everyone agrees that it is something you simply cannot go without. Also… I can't believe how amazing we look on film! Haha! If you are thinking about not having a video of your wedding, think again. You actually need it.”
