Prudence and Tom have become dear friends and capturing their unique Wedding was a day I'll never forget. A humanist ceremony, a feminist slant and a focus on supporting small businesses - this was my kinda wedding!
Prudence and her best women got ready at the venue - Clapton Country Club, whilst Tom and his best men were 5 mins away at an air bnb. I love it when couples are close to each other in the morning as this means I can visit both parties before the ceremony for those awesome 'getting ready' shots.
Prudence gifted her Best Women with a Superwomen activist pack each, including a feminist book and tote bags saying ‘Nevertheless she persisted’, starry studs from Tilly Thomas Lux, a necklace from The British Museum and a glittery clutch from PupTart. Tom had created a wonderful scrapbook of memories that P opened in the morning (and proceeded to close swiftly for fear of tears and freshly applied mascara!)
Prudence and Tom had two ceremonies on the day; the first a Civil Ceremony at The House at Clissold Park. So we hopped into a cab and headed off to meet a small party of family members for a short and super sweet ceremony. P walked down the aisle unaccompanied, and her sister Madeline read ‘The Song of Science’ by Tyler Knott Gregson - a gorgeous poem exploring love and science.
We had a very limited amount of time before the 30 people present needed to join the other 100 now gathering at Clapton Country Club for the Humanist Ceremony - but the day was gorgeous (despite it being late October) and the light just right, so we raced through some 'formals' in record speed!
And then it was onto the main event! This was the first Humanist Ceremony I had witnessed and I absolutely loved it. Celebrant Stephanie Kendrick from Humanists UK led the ceremony with a relaxed and friendly vibe, P was accompanied down the aisle with both her parents and the couple read their own vows. All whilst stood in front of P's gift to Tom; a bespoke Bag&Bones neon light reading 'More Than Words'. It made for an awesome backdrop.
Clapton Country Club is an amazing venue. Created by the owners who needed a clean space for their own wedding, it's the ideal place for those after an intimate vibe with space for plenty. I loved the greenery (courtesy of Petalon) hanging from the ceilings, climbing the stairs and draped over chairs - bringing a boho vibe to an East London warehouse. The space outside contain my favourite elements - brick and cobbles - so we made time here for more 'formals' and even some pointy finger dancing.
There was no sit-down meal (a great way to avoid the dreaded Table Plan) instead bowl food of mixed cuisine was on offer and guests could perch at a high table or find a cosy sofa/chez longe to settle down on. The speeches were heartfelt and beautiful, and revealed some very funny secrets which gave me great reactions to capture!
And then it was party time! P & T created an epic Spotify playlist that had the dance floor packed all night long. By this point in the day guests are very used to me being around, and after a few hours of solid drinking are more eager to have their picture taken, which is great for me. This is where I love to get group shots of friends of family - everyone is far more relaxed and often far keener to be snapped when on the dancefloor!
My favourite thing about working this wedding was the unlimited amount of smiles each and every person had to give. I could point my camera in any direction and know I would be capturing a happy face. Watching Prudence and Tom together is a joy, and the love they have for each other is infectious. Thank you P and T for choosing me to document it all. <3
